How Cars Renta collects, uses and protects personal information when you search for a rental car, contact us or book through our partner DiscoverCars.
Last updated: 3 October 2026
1. Who we are
Cars Renta (“Cars Renta”, “we”, “us”) runs cars-renta.com, a comparison site for car rental. We do not own vehicles or operate rental desks: we show offers from our booking partner DiscoverCars and the rental suppliers it works with.
For the personal information described in this policy that we handle on our own site, Cars Renta is the data controller. Once you book, DiscoverCars and the rental supplier also process your information as separate controllers under their own privacy policies.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form. Your name, email address, optional phone number, the subject and your message.
- Booking details. When a booking is made on this site, the main driver’s first and last name, date of birth, email address, phone number, country of residence, optional flight number, and the extras and cover you choose. We pass these to DiscoverCars to make the reservation and keep a record of the booking (reference, dates, vehicle, supplier, price and status) so you can view or cancel it later. When you instead continue to the DiscoverCars website to book, you give your details to DiscoverCars, not to us.
- Searches. The pick-up and drop-off locations, dates and times, driver age and country of residence you enter, which we need to ask DiscoverCars for prices.
We do not collect or store payment card details. Any payment is taken by DiscoverCars or the rental supplier.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data. Your IP address, browser type and device information, recorded in server logs and, when you send the contact form, alongside your message to help us stop spam and abuse.
- Spam check. When you use the contact form, Google reCAPTCHA checks that it is being filled in by a person. Google receives information about your browser and how you use the form, under the Google Privacy Policy. It loads only once you start on the form.
- Usage data. If you allow analytics cookies, the pages you visit and how you use them, through Google Analytics (see Cookies and analytics).
3. How we use it
- To search for and show you rental offers.
- To make, show, manage and cancel a booking you request, and to send you back to it by email if you lose the link.
- To answer questions you send us.
- To keep the site secure, prevent fraud and spam, and fix problems.
- With your consent, to understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
- To meet our legal and accounting obligations, including records of commissions paid to us.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. Legal bases
Where data-protection law such as the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Contract — to carry out a search or booking you ask for.
- Legitimate interests — to answer enquiries, run and secure the site, and prevent abuse.
- Consent — for analytics cookies. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Legal obligation — to keep records the law requires.
5. Who we share it with
- DiscoverCars and rental suppliers — to search for prices and to make, change or cancel your booking. The supplier named on your offer receives the driver details it needs to hand over the car.
- Service providers — our hosting provider, email delivery and Google (for analytics, only with your consent, and reCAPTCHA spam checks on the contact form), acting on our instructions.
- Authorities and advisers — where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or others.
- A buyer or successor — if our business is sold or reorganised, under this policy.
6. Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies:
-
Essential cookies keep your session working, protect forms against cross-site request
forgery and remember your cookie choice (
cookie_consent, kept for one year). They do not need consent. - Analytics cookies from Google Analytics 4 are set only if you choose “Accept all”. Until then, Google Analytics runs in consent mode: it sets no cookies and stores no identifiers on your device.
We do not use advertising or remarketing cookies. You can change your choice at any time here — — or block cookies in your browser settings. When you continue to DiscoverCars, its own cookie policy applies there.
7. International transfers
DiscoverCars, rental suppliers and our service providers may process information in countries other than yours, including outside the UK and the European Economic Area. Where that happens we rely on safeguards recognised by law, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
8. How long we keep it
- Enquiries — for as long as we need to deal with your question, and up to 24 months afterwards in case you follow up. Messages identified as spam are deleted after 30 days.
- Booking records — for as long as the booking is active and then for the period tax and accounting law requires, normally up to 6 years.
- Session data — removed shortly after your visit ends.
- Server logs — kept for a short period for security, then deleted.
- Analytics data — kept by Google for 14 months, then deleted.
9. Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Booking pages can be opened only through signed links, API keys are stored encrypted, and access to our admin area is restricted to authorised staff. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you and the relevant authority about a breach where the law requires.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- see the personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- receive it in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what was done before;
- if you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, know what we collect and not be discriminated against for using your rights. We do not sell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
To use any of these rights, email support@cars-renta.com. We may need to confirm your identity, and we answer within one month. For information DiscoverCars or a supplier holds about your booking, you can also contact them directly. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to your local data-protection authority.
11. Children
The site is meant for adults. A main driver must be at least 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed; important changes will also be shown on the site.
13. Contacting us
